Barb is a 22 year resident of Black Diamond. Her husband, two children and herself moved here in 1988 away from the rat race of the city of Calgary.
Shortly after their arrival both her and her husband started volunteering to ensure that there was something for their young boys to do, get to know people and help the community grow.
In 1995 Barb was nominated for town council seeing a need for some much needed changes in the town office. During her 3 year term Barb became familiar with
how things are done and enjoyed her time working for the community. Many things were changing in the town and Barb was thrilled with the introduction of the Mainstreet Program, working on the committee and ultimately using the program to revitalize the small business store front she was managing.
Seeing a need to get the town staff more customer service friendly, workshops were organized to be taken by the staff and council to start those changes. Black Diamond also saw the need to give our only industry a boost and with a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and a grant from Western Economic Diversification Barb helped develop a plan to promote and market tourism.
At the end of her first term Barb was forced to re-evaluate her priorities
and decided not to seek re-election to make herself available to her teenage
boys full time. They are all grown up now and Barb feels, along with her husband, that she has time to commit to the town, that she is devoted to.
